The challenge of this design competition entry is how to design an eco-hotel that not only answers the operational and practical demands of a 4-star establishment but also sets a radical and unprecedented environmental benchmark for hotels of the future.
We planned the hotel around the sun’s path across the sky, the dramatic sweep of the main building wraps itself around a hanging garden of mature trees. In addition to providing a spectacular focal point, the garden is designed
to evolve over time, eventually creating its own energy-saving microclimate. As an added bonus, the ground-breaking layout of the hotel means every guest room has a magnificent view of the ever-changing waters of the Severn Estuary.
